The LCVP Programme combines the leaving cert with a new aspect of self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community. Young people taking LCVP have a unique opportunity to develop their interpersonal, vocational and technological skills. These skills are equally relevant to the needs of of those preparing for further education, seeking employment or planning to start their own business. Students taking the LCVP will have an opportunity to develop and apply their IT skills. Experiences such as work placement, career investigation, mini - enterprise, business and community visits are an integral part of the programme. Students create a portfolio of their work over two years. This forms 60% of their overall mark. The remaining 40% is assessed by a written exam that includes an audio/visual presentation and a case study. Visit www.lcvp.ie for more information |

Sports Day - Its probably the most enjoyable day of the year at school and even more so this year because of efforts by the LCVP class. Mrs Kirwans entrepreneurs brought an element of novelty to the annual event. There were a number of basketball, volleyball, soccer, and gaelic football games to be played off and this took a lot of organizing by the LCVP group. The obstacle course was a big attraction again this year and the competition was run of very efficiently. Some of the group organized a BBQ for the day and provided refreshments for the hungry participants. Pizza, garlic bread, hot dogs, burgers etc were on offer. Others were on a slippery slope—literally! Baling plastic, washing up liquid and water were put to novel use for this attraction that turned out to be the highlight of the day. Everyone participating in novelty sports such as the sack rack and shooting baskets. Finally, the day drew to a close with the prize giving ceremony. A great day for St John Bosco CC |

My Own Place As part of an investigation into My Own Place, LCVP students visited Kilrush town and the Vandeleur Garden and Centre. They were welcomed by the President of Kilrush Chamber of Commerce, Charles W. Glynn, and Murt Collins of Kilrush Tidy Towns. They were given a very informative talk on the restoration of the Vandeleur gardens and they also learned about various aspects of Kilrush including dolphin watching, Scattery Island tourism, Tidy Towns, Chamber of Commerce, community involvement and fundraising. The trip was extremely useful for compiling their My Own Place report. The students and teachers were most grateful to the speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with them. |
